Oh my goodness.
What a crazy night.
(This is going to be completely rantastic and probably meaningless as a general blog post, but all I want to talk about right now..and I'm sure I've done this subject before....is how insane the final show of Spring Awakening just was.)
First of all, I watered at the eyes a lot. A lot a lot. And it was a mix of extreme, ear to ear smiles and tears too. Hard to explain. (Probably won't because lord knows nobody wants to hear about me babbling over this production.) But seriously. The energy in that Eugene O'Neil theater on this final night was so amazing. Standing ovations going on for minutes after every song. Cast enunciating every line with the most emotion I've ever seen. It was all just......good.
And sitting in the final row of the theater worked out to be the best bad case scenario. It was cool to see as the original broadway cast (back for the visit) walked directly behind where I was sitting to get to their seats. I had a view of the entire stage/theater..picked out things I'd never seen before. Was raised up a little bit cause it was the last row giving me all the more view. Just perfect. Oh and the standing. Lots of standing.
And the encore. Ahh. There was a surprise encore on the show's most energetic numbers, which had the whole audience up and going bizerk. Again, hard to explain. But it was intense.
Speaking of more intensity, the last note and number had the whole onstage cast bawlin and it was such a cool thing to be a part of.
Phew. I'm just skipping the cream here. Don't want to get too crazy and I don't feel like recapping song by song. But point is, I've never been so attached to something on Broadway before..and probably won't ever be again. Honestly, I'm not a big theater guy. It was just something captivating with Spring Awakening that led me to follow it from July 28 2007 (my first time) to six shows in between to January 18 2009 (tonight, my 8th and FINAL time)
Oh my goodness.
Time to go find me some illegally posted youtube videos. I'll need this memory to be permanent.
